Dear Second Grade Families,

Thank you to all the parents for helping out in our primary center day.  I could not have done it without all of you.

We will have our second field trip on February 18th to the Thousand Oaks Civic Arts Center.  Be sure to look for your child’s permission slip in their classwork packet that will be sent on Thursday.   We will celebrate 100 days of school on Wednesday.  Our celebration of 100 days of school  will begin during our math groups and move along into our reading groups.  It will be a fun filled day.  Also, this week we will begin our Catholic Schools week on Friday with a Mass and Parent Appreciation Day.   Please join us in Church at 8:30 a.m.  Refreshments and classroom visits will be after Mass.

HERE’S A QUICK LOOK AT OUR WEEK…

Wednesday:  Free Dress $1.00

Friday:  Parent’s Day!

Homework:Reading Log, Fluency, IXL  A.14 and I.1

FLAT PERSON UPDATE… It is almost time for Flat Second Graders to return home.  We will be sending letters to our hosts thanking them for their hospitality and their time and energy spent helping your second grader with his/her project.  As soon as our Flat People begin to return, I will send the assignment for this project so you may begin preparing for the School Fair in March.

RELIGION: We begin the memorization of the Act of Contrition.  Please practice at home.   We will be discussing sin and temptation. We will examine our conscience this week.

LANGUAGE ARTS:

READING:   We will continue with the story, The Boxcar Children.  We will be wrapping up, Big Bushy Mustache.

SPELLING: We will have no spelling tests this week since unit 18 is review.   I will be giving a spelling inventory test to the students to check mastery of spelling patterns learned so far. This does not count as a test.  It is only an assessment to check for mastery and areas that may need improvement.

MATH: We will be skip counting, reviewing addition and subtraction with some fun 100 day activities.  We will complete unit 4 this week and take our math test Tuesday.

SCIENCE: We will learn how rocks form.

I am looking forward to seeing you on Friday.  Be ready to have some fun.  Please let me know if you will NOT be able to attend Parent’s Day.

Have a Beautiful Day,

Mrs. Vazquez
