Dear Third Grade Families,

Happy 100th day of school! I still can’t believe that we are half way through the school year and half way to fourth grade. We will be celebrating by completing 100 acts of kindness throughout the week.

Thursday is library day. Please remind your child to bring his/her library books so that new ones may be checked out. After the library, Mrs. Hoffman will be hosting our monthly Harvest of the Month! We look forward to a healthy treat.

This Friday we will kick off Catholic Schools Week with 8:30 mass. As always, parents are invited to meet us in the church. It will be a noon dismissal day followed by Open House on Sunday at noon.

This week, math brings us many changes. We will be wrapping up Chapter 6 (Multiplication) and moving on to Chapter 8 (Division). Students should be studying their math facts daily in the order presented in the packet that can be found in your child’s Homework Folder. Next week, we will begin weekly oral quizzes beginning with Goal 1M (10s Multiplication). Students should know each fact with automaticity (without having to count up or use scratch paper). As an incentive, students will receive 5 homework passes upon completion of Goal 8!

In language arts, we are focusing on homophones. Because this is a tricky Unit for many students, we will not have a spelling test on Friday. Rather, students will have 2 weeks to study the words. Vocabulary has us studying interesting colors, and in grammar we will spend some time reviewing when to use capital letters and when to use lower cases. In writing, we will continue to work on our personal narratives. Finally, this week we welcome a familiar face to our classroom for small group reading and math work: our former principal, Miss Alden!

This week, we plan to wrap up science chapter 4 with a test on Wednesday.

Finally, Progress Reports will be going home in your child’s Tuesday Work Folder. Please sign and return these ASAP.

Have a great week!,

Mrs. Espinosa
