Dear Kindergarten Families,

Your students and I really enjoyed having their parents in class! Thank you for coming and working right along in centers with your child. I appreciate you!!

We will celebrate Catholic Schools this last week of January! On Wednesday we appreciate our students with free dress no $$ this time and a free hamburger lunch courtesy of Principal Benner. Please pack a lunch if your child does not care for hamburgers. Thursday we appreciate our Parish Priests. Lots of fun planned this week ending with a special school family event on our full day Friday.

In February we will have a Valentine ‘exchange’ on Friday, Feb. 13.  Not a ‘party’ we will make a simple craft and visit our buddies. We have 20 students in our class. Ten boys and ten girls. The Valentine’s could be differentiated by gender if your child would like.

Have your child write their name on the the Valentine card. I’ll send home a list of the names of our students names in their gold folder later this week. It might be fun to write their numbers since names take up a lot of room. All students must be included in the exchange!

Our academic week:

Faith and scripture:  Bible stories and work from our Religion textbook. This week our focus is “Hearts Are Good”. We will be learning that love is a special gift God put in our hearts. And how God sent Jesus to show us His love. Scripture work and writing, Jesus says,”Love one another as I love you.”

ELA:  read aloud Chicken Soup with Rice using reading strategy to predict/infer and comprehension focus: fantasy and realism. Letter for the week /l/, describing weather words as we write sentences, review of rhymes and letters /g/ and /v/.

EM: getting familiar with the calculators, addition and subtraction with objects, skip counting by 5s, sorting skills, and number stories.

Science: continuing with our five senses, looking at sound and health.

Social studies: Using our SLEs as we think of helping others – at home, in school and in the world. A look at our world-and the people we can help. Preparing for our landform relief project.

Remember to return library books to check out a new one.

Have a wonderful week!

Mrs. Carol Brown
