Dear Kindergarten Families,

This week we have a full day on Friday.  We will be going to Mass that morning and sitting with our school families. Parents and/or grandparents are always welcome to join us. Although this week if you are planning on coming please let me know.  I will do my best to have your child sit on the end of the pew.

~Tuesday is a big day~ Be sure to check your child’s backpack for their first trimester’s Progress Report! Please review, sign and return by Monday, October 12. Our School Envelope and Completed Work Folder will be coming home, too —  please return on Wednesday.

Savannah and Christopher are our birthday friends for October!

October is the month of the Rosary. We will learn to pray the rosary. Next Wednesday at 2:00 as a school we will attend church to pray the living rosary. This week our religion lesson is Chapter 5, Quiet is Good – we will be learning how to meet God when we are still and quiet to find His presence within us. Follows our School -wide Learning Expectations A.4 Make good choices like Jesus.

ELA- small reading groups have begun! We work in non-rotating groups Monday-Tuesday and Wednesday. As we begin Theme 2 -Colors All Around shows  work with  beginning sounds and words in oral sentences. Color words will be worked in with poems, readings noting how they help us describe when writing.  Ss is our weekly letter focus. Reading strategies learning to predict and infer and summarize when reading fiction books. Comprehension covers sequence of events and inferences.

EM – teaches us correct strokes to  use for printing numbers (2.7) , playing oral games (2.6), matching coin games, (2.8) and finish with more work with the number grid.

Science-bringing back a look at soil and earthworms, review of birds and mammals. Tuesday in the lab we will read together and begin scientific work observing worms and reading information about how important these little creatures are.

Social studies – Christopher Columbus, his map and the New World and,  an art project.
