Dear Kindergarten Families,

I hope everyone enjoyed the Labor Day weekend! This week will be exciting as we prepare for Grandparent’s Day on Friday.

If your child’s grandparent(s) live far away or cannot be present… family friends or parents can certainly fill in. It is important for kinders to have someone present for them on this special day.

*Please have grandparents or special friends meet us at 8:30 at the church. Look for us on the right side – first 9 or 10 rows. We’ll save plenty of room! Classroom visits will take place after grandparents mingle in Bierdmann Hall allowing students time for recess. Dismissal is at 12:00.

As we begin September, we celebrate Caleb’s birthday (9-1) and later in the month (9-26) Andrew has his special day.

Religion: Last week our religion centered how we are made in God’s image, His name is holy and showing respect and kindness as we call others by their name. This week we will continue with our loving Father, our home and family, including the significance of our names.

ELA: This week starts off  Theme 1 “Look At Us”. As we begin this theme, with letter Jj, Kk and Ll.  Our focus is with rhyming words, and comprehension skills to compare and contrast. Reading groups with picture readers starts  this Wednesday.

EM: Math finds us getting to know numbers 1-9 using manipulative counters, introduction to sorting objects, and estimating with volume. (Sections 1.5-1.7)

Science: This week our lab is continuing with soil-and animal life. Our experiment and observation work is to build a ‘wormery’ using layers of soil and earthworms.

Social studies: Reviewing  occupations – graphing our dream jobs!

Remember your child needs to bring back their library book by Wednesday in order to check out a new one.

Enjoy your week!

Blessings,

Mrs. Carol Brown
