A group of middle school students have organized a special service project and are asking for our help.  They are collecting used clothing for children ages 4-18, clothing which will be taken to the Dominican Republic this Thursday and distributed to children in need.  All clothing needs to be brought in on Tuesday or Wednesday.  There will be bins placed outside along the car line for your convenience.

The Speech contest will be at the end of April. I have asked the fourth graders to select a published poem before we go on Easter break, so that they can practice during the vacation.  Everyone must select a different poem, from 15-20 lines, so it is first come, first serve.  Once selected, a copy of the poem should be brought to school for me to record.

This week we will be completing Reading logs, due next Monday. You may click here to access the form. Weekly_Reading_Log

We will be doing ixL Math this week, focusing upon a review of geometry and some multiplication using the lattice method: P 8, P 31 and D 16.  These should be done by next Monday.

In Writer’s Workshop we are writing the rough drafts of our essays on something that is important to us.

In Social Studies we continue reading chapter 5, learning about the journey westward by wagon train.

We have started Unit 23 in Spelling; there will be a test on Friday.

We will begin our study of Unit 13 Vocabulary words; the test will be next week.

In Grammar we continue our study of adjectives and adverbs.

In Math we move on to Unit 6, focused upon division.

We continue our study of the properties of rocks and minerals in Science class.

In Religion class we have been discussing the sixth commandment.  This week our focus turns to the 7th commandment. As we continue our Lenten journey, we will be attending Stations of the Cross on Thursday at 2 p.m.  Please join us if you can.

In Reading groups we continue reading our literature selections, as well as reading nonfiction selections in the Scholastic News magazines.

Thanking you for your continued support,

Mrs. Dwyer
