Hello Third Grade Families!

We were back in action this morning as we have so much to do and learn in third grade this week. Read below to see what your child will be learning all about:

In class this week, we’ll be studying the following:

Math: This week we will continue Unit 3: Linear Measures and Area. While last week we spent a lot of time reviewing customary and metric units of measure, I encourage you to continue this conversation with your child at home; as learning the number of feet in a yard, centimeters in a meter or even millimeters in a centimeter requires repeated practice and exposure.

Now we will be moving on to measuring perimeter and area in lessons 3.5, 3.6 and 3.7. As always, feel free to follow along with us at www.everydaymathonline.com. Your child’s username and password can be found in his/her planner.

For IXL math homework, please complete the following Third Grade skills:

R.8 Perimeter

R.9 Perimeter: Find the Missing Side’s Length

R.10 Area of Figures Made of Unit Squares

Spelling: Click here to download this week’s spelling words and pattern/principle. Our next spelling test will be this Friday.

Vocabulary: We will continue Unit 5. For a list of the words, definitions and additional practice go to the vocabulary workshop site. Instructions, along with a username and password, can be found taped on the inside cover of your child’s planner.

Reading: Library day is Thursday! Please remind your child to bring any books that are checked out so that they may be renewed or check back in.

Emails listing each student’s first set of required reading have been sent out. We will begin Unit 2 on Monday, October 27th. Please be sure to have your books by or before then.

English: The class will continue Unit 2 in our grammar books this week with lessons 3 and 4. Log on to the Grammar Workshop website for additional practice and skills reinforcement. Directions can be found in your child’s planner.

Science: We will continue Chapter 7, “Chemical Changes,” this week focusing on the periodic table of elements and the difference between compounds and mixtures.

Social Studies: The students will continue to learn all about human-made features of the land including buildings and roads.

Religion: The class will begin a short unit on the Rosary. If you would like to join us for our first Living Rosary for the year, we will be in the church Wednesday afternoon at 2:00.

Have a Great Week!
